During original manufacturing, BGAs are some of the easiest, highest yield components to place on electronic assemblies. If, for some reason, a BGA has to be removed and replaced, special equipment and knowledge is required. There are many areas of concern that must be identified and considered prior to performing a BGA replacement.

This course focuses on all aspects of BGA removal and replacement including BGA identification, laminates and land patterns, solder alloys, and thermal profiles. In addition to four hours of classroom based training, there is an additional four hours of hands-on training which not only includes BGA replacement, but also includes BGA reballing. Analytical options (destructive and non-destructive methods) are explored as well, with hands-on X-Ray inspection and processing and evaluation of dye and pry.

STI has developed an 8-hour hands-on lab based on the IPC/WHMA-A-620’s acceptability requirements.  This hands-on lab covers cable and harness fabrication from stripping and tinning of wires to crimping of contacts while reinforcing the acceptability requirements for all classes of product. 

 

Upon completion of this course the student will receive an STI certificate of completion.

Wave solder classes are conducted with emphasis on process control and heat management. In this comprehensive hands on course, the student will learn how to correctly and safely set up the wave solder machine, establish correct parameters for the PWB’s to be soldered, and perform preventative maintenance. Solder defects and causes will be discussed in great detail.
